PORTLAND — Jeffrey C. VanCura, 61, of South Street in Gorham, died on Thursday, Sept. 9, at Mercy Hospital in Portland, following a brief illness.
He was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on May 4, 1949, the son of the late Richard and Virginia VanCura. He was a graduate of Farmington High School in New Mexico and also attended Colorado School of Mines and the University of Colorado.
Following college, he worked as a title searcher for the state of New Mexico. He moved to Portland and was a title abstractor for several law firms in the greater Portland area. He was an avid sports fan, being a loyal fan of the New England teams, as well as the Chicago Cubs. He was a collector of turquoise jewelry and enjoyed a variety of music, especially Eric Clapton.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Holly Earle VanCura of Gorham; one son, Joshua, of Brighton, Mass.; one daughter, Erin Belanger and her husband, Thomas (T.J.) of Manchester, N.H., and one sister, Judith VanCura-Riley of Santa Ana, Calif.; and he was the proud grandfather of Joseph Belanger; and stepgrandfather of Kayla Beranger.
