Michael Bell, 15, of Lewiston practices with a throw bag during a water safety program at the David Rancourt River Preserve along the Androscoggin River in Lewiston on Saturday. Androscoggin Sheriff’s Surface Water Rescue Team members Jeff Carr, second from left, Dennis Laverdiere, right, and Barry Morris, background, teamed up with LA Trails to offer the course at the 14-acre preserve. The nature area off Tall Pines Drive consists of a loop trail, two small beaches and a hand-carry boat launch. It is named after David Rancourt, a member of the rescue team, who died at the age of 40 while diving for evidence in the Androscoggin River.
