LEWISTON — Lucien J. Martin, 87, of 10 Oak Park, Lewiston, died at his home on Sept. 9, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Lewiston on March 7, 1923, the son of Frank and Irene Bourgoin Martin. Educated in local schools, he served his country in the Marine Corps during World War II, stationed in the Pacific Theater from 1943 to 1946. On Aug. 13, 1946, he married the former Gisele Lemieux, and they made their home and raised their three children in Auburn.

She passed away on April 6, 1997. He was a tradesman and worked in many capacities, including over 20 years as a glazer for Demer’s Plate Glass. He had many skills and hobbies, including carpentry, camping at Hermit Island, bowling, playing cribbage and socializing with his many, many friends, especially those at Oak Park and was an avid Red Sox fan. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor and his fondness for giving out nicknames.

Survivors include his daughter, Patricia Martin Gray of Newport, Vt.; son, Peter Martin of Auburn; three brothers, Paul of Lewiston, Marcel and wife, Collete, of Lewiston and Bertrand and wife, Irene, of Fayette; grandchildren, Meagan Martin of Boulder City, Nev., Mark Gray of Newport, Vt., and Chad Gray of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and by several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife; he was predeceased by a son, Richard Martin; a granddaughter, Christine Gray; and his beloved sister, Jane Martin Audet.
