LEWISTON — Road crews will rip up and replace the pavement along Pine Street from Canal to Sabattus street next week but the road will remain open for travel.

“But there won’t be parking there,” said Tony Lombardo, engineer for the city of Lewiston. “We’ll close it down for the entire week while we get it prepared for final paving.”

Lombardi said crews would begin milling the current pavement on Monday, digging it up and taking it away. A new layer of pavement should go down midweek . The final coat of asphalt is scheduled to go down some time in mid-October.

Lombardo said crews are scheduled to continue work rebuilding sidewalks along Pine Street between Webster and Sabattus streets for the next couple of weeks as well.

“It’s all part of the same project,” he said. “That sidewalk work is going on now and will be, for a little while more.”
