Many compliments were bestowed at the Maine State Fair upon the fine chestnut gelding Alcydeen, owned by C. S. Robbins of Court Street, Auburn. Alcydeen was purchased of Massachusetts people this fall by Mr. Robbins. He is a fine blooded animal being sired by Alcyonium, dam Jingles.

50 years ago, 1960

Maine Supreme Court Justice Donald W. Webber of Auburn has been nominated by Gov. John H. Reed for a second seven-year term on the Supreme Court bench. Justice Webber was first named to the Supreme Court in 1953 by Gov. Burton H. Cross.

25 years ago 1985

The second annual Great Lewiston-Auburn Mill Festival got off to a laugh-filled start Friday when Abrams and Anderson played the old whose-hands-are-these? trick during an improvisational comedy performance that capped a night of entertainment for a full house at Lewiston’s Belview Theater. Magician Bob Nixon, rag-time pianist Norm Mason and the barbershop quartet Steppin Out also helped raise the roof and kick off the Mill Festival, which continues through a 5 p.m. block party Saturday in downtown Lewiston.
