JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Raymond J. “Chip” Spencer III, 51, died unexpectedly July 31, in Jacksonville, Fla.

He was born Sept. 20, 1958, in Lewiston, the son of Raymond and Janice Louise (Simpson) Spencer of Portland. He served in the U.S. Navy and worked as a triage nurse in Florida hospitals. He greatly valued his role as a caregiver and the sea and swimming were two of his passions.

He is survived by his parents; Robin Bryan Spencer, best friend and mother of his three children, Bethany (Spencer) Geiger, Gabe Spencer and Jordan Spencer; four grandchildren, Kaelyn, Ellie, Jase and Bladen, all of Florida; two siblings, Scott Spencer of Portland and Bethany (Spencer) Austin of Bangor; and four nephews.
