Informational meeting
VIENNA — Spectrum Generations will hold an informational session to provide information about what its services, offered through the Cohen Community Center, can provide for mature residents of Vienna and Mt. Vernon.
Maggie Tardiff and Carol Fuller will be the speakers at the Mill Stream Grange on Friday, Sept. 17. There will be a potluck supper at 6 p.m. followed by the program at 7. Those attending should bring a salad, casserole or dessert.
Invasive species workshop
WILTON — A half-day workshop on invasive species will be held on Sunday, Sept. 19, at the Foothills Land Conservancy property. It will be led by Pam Prodan and Pete Schmitt. The workshop will include invasive species identification and visiting the location of invasive species that occur on the Foothills property.
Participants are asked to wear sturdy shoes and bring a shovel and work gloves to assist with removal of invasive species that day. Those attending should meet at 9 a.m. at the Pond Road parking lot. For more information, contact Prodan at 645-9330.
Poets to meet
ROCKLAND — The Maine Poets Society will meet Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Rockland Public Library. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. A $15 registration fee will include lunch. Nonmembers are welcome and invited to bring a sample of their work and stay to participate in a reading-in-the-round starting about 3 p.m.

Envirothon presentation
JAY — The Jay High School Envirothon Team invites the public, especially businesses and individuals who supported their trip to the Canon International Envirothon, to a Community Night at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, in the Jay Middle School cafeteria.
The program will feature the team’s presentation on ground water protection at Spruce Mountain Ski Area as well as a slide show of their experiences at the Envirothon competition in California.
Caregiver training
FARMINGTON — The Maine Alzheimer’s Association will offer the Savvy Caregiver Training for anyone caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or dementia. The weekly, two-hour classes will run for six weeks. All materials and training sessions are free of charge.
The classes will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18 to Nov. 18, at Franklin Memorial Hospital. For information and class enrollment, contact the Maine Alzheimer’s Association at 800-272-3900 or 772-0115.
