LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine now has openings in the school-age child care program. The school-age program is specially designed to accommodate children ages 5 to 12.

The program offers both before and after school care. Child care is offered Monday through Friday. Before school care begins at 7 a.m., on site at the YWCA with busing available to Martel and Farwell students. After school sites for the YWCA school age program are Montello and Martel Schools, with busing available for children who attend Martel, Montello, McMahon, Farwell and Geiger schools. School age care is available until 5:30 p.m. The YWCA provides a snack and drink daily.

YWCA of Central Maine school-age participants also qualify to participate in swim programs at a deeply discounted rate. Swim lessons are available during nonprogram hours for school-age participants at an additional, deeply-discounted rate. Swim lessons are taught by certified instructors and a certified lifeguard is on deck at all times.

The school-age program follows the Lewiston school system calendar and offers holiday, snow day and vacation care in addition to before and after school. Spaces are limited.

The child care program also has limited openings for preschool (ages 2.5 to 4) and prekindergarten (ages 4 and 5). Part-time and full-time care is offered in both classrooms.

Breakfast and snacks are provided daily at no additional charge. Two outside play times are built into the daily schedule and playground equipment is specific to the interests and safety of the children.

Structured swim time is also built into the curriculum every week at no additional charge. Structured swim is a time for children to enjoy fun and games in the pool with their teachers and classmates. Swim lessons are also available during program hours for an additional, deeply-discounted rate.
