FARMINGTON — Rick Dorian, LEAP executive director, recently awarded two $500 scholarships to Brooke Lewis of West Farmington and Matthew Levensalor of Wilton.

Lewis is a freshman at the University of Maine at Fort Kent in the nursing program. Levensalor is in his first year of health care administration studies with the University of Phoenix: Axia Program.

The Cordes – Taylor Scholarships were developed to recognize the outstanding contributions of two women who have demonstrated excellence to LEAP (Life Enrichment Advancing People) Inc., with more than 52 years of combined service in support of people with developmental and intellectual impairments in western and central Maine.

Kathleen Cordes served LEAP for more than 25 years as a program administrator, manager and leader. Her commitment, energy, dedication and support of the rights of all people served was a model to her community.

Marjorie Taylor has served LEAP for more than 28 years as a residential counselor, dietary and nutritional specialist and office assistant and has shown endless support to staff, managers and the people served through her organization.

LEAP is a Farmington-based private nonprofit agency, which has been providing home and community related supports for people with cognitive and intellectual disabilities in western and central Maine and their families for more than 30 years.
