AUBURN — The Auburn-Lewiston YMCA has announced fundraising events to support The Patrick Dempsey Center For Cancer Hope and Healing. The “Y Village People” will present the Dempsey Challenge Fundraising Week, with events open to the community, from Monday, Sept. 20 through Sunday, Sept. 26.
There will be free child care for some events throughout the week for all participants. Some of the events require preregistration, as well as a donation by participants.
The schedule of events is as follows:
Monday, Sept. 20: Tish Caldwell, certified yoga instructor, will lead a yoga workshop from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for walkers, runners and cyclists of all abilities who want to increase their flexibility, core strength and balance. No prior yoga experience is needed.
Tuesday, Sept. 21: Auburn Fire Fighters – Local 797 Children’s Fund 12-Hour Walk/Run and 100-Mile Ride. Join Mike Brooks as he walks/runs for 12 hours (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) or Mark Boulet as he cycles 100 miles (8 a.m. to noon).
Also that day, join the Y’s “Couch to 5K” and “5K to 10K” participants at Simard-Payne Police Memorial Park from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for a Family Fun Run/Walk.
Wednesday, Sept. 22: Rachel Doane, a certified pilates instructor, will lead a pilates workshop for walkers, runners and cyclists from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. The workshop is for all levels.
Thursday, Sept. 23: John Grenier, owner of Rainbow Bicycles and Fitness, will host a cycling clinic that will include information and demonstrations on mountain, hybrid and road bicycles. He will discuss bike repair, accessories for the ride and riding and training tips.
Friday, Sept. 24: A Group Power class will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. The strength training class is for all levels.
Saturday, Sept. 25: The “Village People Groovers” will host a Group Groove class from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The dance-inspired fitness class creates an all out cardio workout.
Sunday, Sept. 26: The Dempsey Challenge Riders will lead the rides at the Y. The 10-mile ride will be from 9:15 to 10 a.m.; 25-mile ride, 10 to 11 a.m.; 50-mile ride, 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
