FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — A Bridgton man on Wednesday denied running over and killing a construction worker the night before.

Jeremy Gardner, 29, of 11 Iredale Road, was one of two men charged in the death of Gregory Vilidnitsky, a 57-year-old civil engineer who was struck while working on a repaving project on Route 9 in Framingham.

Police said Gardner was driving the pickup truck that struck Vilidnitsky at about 11 p.m. A Framingham District Court Judge ordered Gardner held on $100,000 bail Wednesday on charges that included drunken driving, motor vehicle homicide and leaving the scene of a crash.

Prosecutors say 49-year-old Walter Smith of Barre, Vt., tried to move the truck after the crash. Smith was ordered held on $50,000 bail on a drunken driving charge.

Police said Gardner and Smith were returning to their motel room at the time of the crash.
