100 years ago, 1910

Be cause of a break in one of the cog gears at the municipal lighting plant, the city will be in darkness for several days. The break occurred early Monday and as it was necessary to send out of town for the new machinery, it is likely to be several days before the street lights will be on again.

50 years ago, 1960

Incorporation papers of Woody’s Snack Bar Inc., Mechanic Falls Road, Auburn, have been filed at the Androscoggin County Registry of Deeds. Albert Greenwood of Minot is listed as president of the concern, with Marjorie Greenwood, also of Minot, as the treasurer. They and Attorney Thomas E. Day Jr. comprise the board of directors.

25 years ago, 1985

OXFORD — Jon Lizotte of Mechanic Falls drove his Pontiac Ventura to a seven lap victory at the Randy’s Auto Parts Endurance 200 Sunday afternoon at Oxford Plains Speedway.

Lizotte started 122nd in the 170 car field to pick up the $2,000 winner’s check. Jerry Reynolds of Groveton, N.H., finished 193 laps which earned him second place. Bob Morey of Lisbon, who was second with only five laps remaining, lost a tire, but still was credited with 189 laps and finished third.
