“Mrs. Smith Goes to Washington,” a one-woman play focusing on U.S. Sen. Margaret Chase Smith, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at Johnson Hall Performing Arts Center in Gardiner. The one-woman play, by Linda Britt of Out of the Box Theater, is an intimate look at Maine’s famous politician. Actress Sally Jones, above, portrays Smith, covering her life from childhood through her lengthy political career, which included service in the U.S. House and Senate from 1940 to 1973. Jones invites audience members to share their own stories about this woman of courage and integrity. Tickets are $18, $14 for children under 14. Call 582-7144.
