Benefit hike

NEWRY — The fifth annual Hike the River will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30. The two-mile hike will begin at the Phoenix House and Well on Skiway Road and 100 percent of funds raised will go to the Maine Cancer Foundation in support of breast cancer research, education and patient support programs in Maine.

Registration will start at 10 a.m. and the entry fee is $25. A brunch will be offered free to hike participants starting at 9 a.m. The registration form can be downloaded at www.shipyard.com/pdf/hike2010.pdf.

Blood drive

LOCKE MILLS — An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the American Legion Hall in Locke Mills, sponsored by the Bethel and Locke Mills American Legion Auxiliary.

SUMNER — The Congregational Church of East Sumner at 50 Main St. will have its second annual Harvest Festival from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25.

There will be pumpkins, garden items, baked goods, homemade jellies and jams, coffee and muffins available for purchase, as well as simple lunch fare. Activities for kids will include pumpkin carving and face painting.

There will be a free gospel music concert at 1 p.m. under the new pavilion featuring Kirk Talley. Attendees should bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Chinese auction

SOUTH PARIS — A Chinese auction will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. Bidding on the more than 300 items will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. with winners drawn at 6:30 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit Responsible Pet Care. Tickets, for $5, $10 and $20 will be available, as well as bonus tickets.
