DIXFIELD — Police are investigating a burglary that netted the thief thousands of dollars in valuable coins and other items.
Sgt. Jeff Howe said a Pine Street resident reported that sometime on Sept. 9, someone slipped the lock on his front door and cleaned out a variety of items, including hundreds of old and mint coins. A designer purse and several items with the Marine Corps insignia were also taken.
Howe said the owner is still assessing the losses.
In another theft, a pedestrian walking along Route 2 near the Maine Department of Transportation building late Thursday morning is believed to have taken a purse belonging to the co-owner of Pejepscook Campground and Arsenic and Old Lace Antiques.
Howe said the man, believed to be in his early 30s, took the purse from the front seat of the owner’s pickup, removed the cash, then discarded the purse.
Anyone who may have seen the man, described as a heavy-set white male with light to medium brown hair wearing a flannel shirt, is asked to called the Dixfield Police Department at 562-4517.
A teenage boy, who is not a student at Dirigo High School, is being sought in connection with threatening calls made to three students at the school on Sept. 10.
Howe said school officials reported the calls at 1 p.m. after they learned that threats over drugs were made to the students’ cell phones. The caller threatened violence.
Police have a suspect whom they are trying to locate.
