PARIS — A Rumford man will serve seven years in prison for sexually assaulting a young girl.
Robert P. Auger, 41, of 29 Winter St. in Lewiston, admitted in Oxford County Superior Court to five charges of gross sexual assault. The plea dismissed another five counts of the same charge.
Justice Robert Clifford accepted a plea agreement and ordered Auger to serve seven years in prison on one count. In addition, he ordered two consecutive fully suspended 10-year sentences with three years of probation on each of the remaining counts.
During his probationary period, Auger must not have contact with the girl or her mother, have no contact with any children under the age of 18, register as a lifetime sex offender, and attend sex offender counseling.
Auger was charged with sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in Rumford between July and October 2009. In a statement given to the court, the girl said she did not think the sentence was harsh enough.
“The damage you have done to me is irreversible,” she said.
The girl’s mother also addressed the court, accusing Auger of manipulating her daughter. She said she suffers from guilt, anxiety and depression as a result.
“We live in fear that he will come after us,” she said.
