As a Lewiston-Auburn native now working and living in Manchester, N.H., I was shocked to hear about the YWCA possibly closing its doors due to financial hardships (Aug. 24). At the same time, I was also touched by the generosity the community and business owners have displayed by organizing a drive to raise money despite the current economic conditions we are all faced with in some way or another.
Athough the YWCA drive is statewide and I now live in New Hampshire, I felt that it was equally important to show my support to the cause because the YWCA gave me a lot of great memories, from learning how to swin, participating in one of the first step aerobic classes, summer day care and many more.
The YWCA is an important part of the community as it has touched so many of us somehow, some way. I am hopeful that this drive will be a success, so others of all ages can have the opportunity to take advantage of all the wonderful programs the YWCA has to offer.
Thank you, YWCA, for the great memories you have given me and others in the future.
Shana L. Lajoie, Manchester, N.H.
