DIXFIELD — A 7-year-old girl who fell off her bicycle and struck her head early Saturday evening was conscious and alert when taken to Rumford Hospital by Med-Care Ambulance for evaluation, police said.

Patrolman Dave Hodgson declined to identify the child, who wasn’t wearing a helmet to his knowledge.

At 6:44 p.m., an emergency dispatcher in Paris radioed Med-Care that the girl fell off her bike at 25 Highland Ave. and was possibly unconscious.

“She was conscious and crying and talking when I got there,” Hodgson said. “She was riding her bike and fell off and landed on her noggin and got quite a knot on her head.”

The accident happened in the child’s yard.

Hodgson said the Med-Care crew put the girl in a neck brace as a precaution before taking her to the hospital. The child’s mother accompanied her inside the ambulance.

“(Med-Care personnel) told me she was stable,” Hodgson said.
