LEWISTON — A 33-year-old Turner man was arrested and charged with robbing a Main Street convenience store with a BB gun early Saturday morning, police said.
Justin Brant Donaldson was arrested on Park Street at 3:14 a.m. after allegedly holding up the Cumberland Farms at 701 Main St., according to Lt. Michael McGonagle.
Police said Donaldson entered the store at around 2 a.m. and demanded money while displaying the barrel of a gun. The clerk reportedly gave Donaldson an undisclosed amount of cash from the register before the suspect drove away.
The clerk was not hurt during the incident.
Lt. Adam D. Higgins later saw a suspect matching Donaldson’s description as the suspect drove across Longley Bridge from Auburn, McGonagle said.
Higgins was stopped at a red light when he saw Donaldson. Higgins maneuvered alongside Donaldson’s vehicle to get a better look.
“It was great heads-up work by (Higgins),” McGonagle said.
He said Higgins and Sgt. Joseph Bradeen stopped the suspect at the corner of Pine and Park streets. Donaldson was arrested and charged with robbery.
McGonagle said officers searching Donaldson’s car later found a black pistol BB gun resembling a semi-automatic pistol. The gun was confiscated and Donaldson’s vehicle was impounded.
Lewiston Police took Donaldson to the Androscoggin County Jail, where he was still being held Saturday evening.
McGonagle said the incident was still under investigation and that Donaldson could face additional charges.
