LEWISTON – Doreen G. Maheux, 53, a resident of Knapp Street in Livermore Falls, died Thursday, Sept. 16, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born April 17, 1957, in Lewiston, the daughter of the late Russell K. Buckley and Rachel E. (Hammond) Alward. She was a graduate of Leavitt High School and the University of Maine in Augusta earning a BS degree in social work.

Doreen worked at Greene Acres Manor, Inc. as a social worker for 20 years. On May 12, 2003, she married Laurier “Larry” Maheux and they made their home in Livermore Falls. She enjoyed shopping, especially for diamond jewelry, yard sales, collecting carousels, antiques and the companionship of her cats. Doreen will be remembered as a loving and outgoing person who made friends with everyone she met and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Larry H. Maheux of Livermore Falls; sisters, Gailene Buckley of Livermore Falls, Jolene E. Andre and her husband, Francis, of Leeds; a brother, Miles H. Buckley and his wife, Andrea, of Pierce, Ariz.; stepdaughter, Nikita Maheux of Livermore Falls; stepbrother, Robert Alward and his wife, Nancy, of Sabattus; nephews, Ronald Turcotte and his wife, Marcia, Daniel Buckley, Jake Buckley, Shane Murphy, and Matthew Turcotte; nieces, Melissa Black and her husband, Keith, Emily Murphy, Lillie Black, Ashley Black and Megan Turcotte; special friends, Mary Anne Davis, Maxine Wyman, Ellie Gordon, Elaine Buckley, John Pulsifer, Pat Hutchinson, Gail Lemay, Chuck Norris, Mary Jo Hamel, Kenney Smith, Valerie Webb, Wesley Bowen, Robert and Becca Harmatys; and the staff at Rite Aid Pharmacy in Livermore Falls.

Doreen’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff on C-2 at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and also to Dr. Pandy and Dr. Modaressi for the outstanding care that was given to Doreen throughout her illness.
