FARMINGTON – Norman L. Girardin, 88, a resident of Pine Street, Livermore Falls, died Saturday evening, Sept. 18, the night before his 89th birthday, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family.
He was born Sept. 19, 1921, in Livermore Falls, the son of Pierre and Leah (Duguay) Girardin. He was a graduate of Livermore Falls High School and Ricker College Classical Institution, in Houlton.
He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific. He was badly wounded in July of 1941. On Sept. 6, 1954, he married Doris A. Reed of Jay. He worked for Livermore Falls Shoe, and then became a rural carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1983. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. Norman was a member and Past Commander of the Frank L. Mitchell V.F.W. Post 3335, and served as Commander for the State V.F.W. and on the Board of Directors for the National V.F.W. He was also a member of the George Bunton Post 10 American Legion, AmVets Post 33, the D.A.V., and the Jay-Livermore Falls Hunting Club. Norman was an avid sports fan and was instrumental in starting football for AYS.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Doris Girardin of Livermore Falls; two sons, Norman Girardin and his wife, Carmen, of North Augusta, S.C., and Robert Girardin of Livermore Falls; his daughter, Tecia Girardin of Jay; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his sister, Rita Pelletier of Brunswick.
He was predeceased by five brothers, Lewis, Gerard, Roland, Joffe and Valmore Girardin; and three sisters, Marguerite Jean, Ann Breach and Lola Clark.
