DEAR SUN SPOTS: During the summer months a banner was borrowed from Edward Little High School for a class reunion. I did not take down the name of the young woman who borrowed it, and she has yet to return it.

Please, we really need that banner for other reunions. We would appreciate it if you could return it as soon as possible. I believe she has young children, and I know how you can put something down and forget all about it. I hope that this jogs her memory to return it. Thank you. — Nancy Cyr, administrative assistant to the principal, 333-6652

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am writing in reference to Debbie Blais’ inquiry about the song “Big Rock Candy Mountain.” The song can be found, in its entirety, with many other great songs, on the “Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou” soundtrack. I got mine at Bull Moose Music in Lewiston. — Dennis Atwood, Sabattus

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am responding to Kathy from Auburn who is in search of a cross-stitch store that sells the materials. I, too, am an avid cross-stitcher and noticed Walmart, Kmart, Target and even Michael’s stores no longer carry cross-stitch books nor materials.

There is a store called Log Cabin Craftworks. It is located on Route 2 in Dixfield. The phone number is 562-8816. Hope this helps. Happy cross-stitching! — Crazy Cross-Stitcher, Peru

DEAR SUN SPOTS: For Kathy of Auburn: Try the Log Cabin in Dixfield. It is located on Main Street at the traffic light (there’s only one in town). If they do not have what you want, you don’t need it. The owner is in the store (closed Mondays) and can either find what you want there for you or she will order it.

I do cross stitch all the time, and this store is my source for patterns, floss, material, etc. Good luck. — Connie, Weld

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am writing in response to the question asked last week in Sun Spots about people making a donation to a charity instead of flowers when a loved one passes away. They asked how to deal with the donation acknowledgement.

Here at the Franco-American Heritage Center, we receive such donations in memory of a loved one. Many times it is to have a memorial paver engraved in their name to keep their memory alive in our Memorial Terrace. What we do is send a list of all the donors to the family, and they usually are the ones that do the thank-you notes to the donors.

This way, they know who donated and are given the opportunity to express their gratitude to them in their own words. We thank the family for making this possible and at the same time for helping the center. — Rita Dube, executive director

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for donations of nursing magazines, either the American Journal of Nursing or Nursing, 2006 through 2010. I teach a health occupations class and find them very helpful as a teaching tool. If you would like to donate “newer” old magazines, please contact me at 318-4167. Thank you for your help. — Cathy Liguori, R.N., Maine Tech 10, Brunswick

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am a senior at St. Dominic Academy. I am collecting bottles and cans to help fund a trip to Mission Mississippi in spring 2011. Each year, St. Dom’s seniors raise money to go to Mound Bayou, Miss., where they help the poorest of the poor.

I have been looking forward to attending Mission to Mississippi since my freshman year. If anyone would be willing to help me fundraise for this trip, I can be contacted at 933-3511. Thank you in advance! — Theresa Therriault, jpttghbm@hotmail.com
