ROXBURY — A Peru man who was injured when his rifle exploded Saturday has been released from Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
Kevin Hostetter, 49, suffered injuries to his right hand when the lever action on the Marlin 45-70 exploded during target practice.
He was taken to Rumford Hospital by his son, and from there he was taken to the Lewiston hospital.
A CMMC spokeswoman said Monday afternoon that Hostetter is no longer a patient at there.
The rifle exploded around noon in a gravel pit located off Walker Brook Road.
Deb Turcotte, spokeswoman for the Maine Warden Service, said Monday afternoon that the firearm remains at the Maine State Police Crime Lab in Augusta where it is being tested. Results for the possible reasons why the rifle exploded are not yet known.
Turcotte said Hostetter suffered a dislocated thumb, and cuts and burns.
