SCARBOROUGH — Joanne Surette Cormier, of Farmington, passed away at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House on Sunday, Sept. 19. She survived six years post breast cancer and was suddenly overcome by acute leukemia.
She was born Dec. 4, 1942, in Rumford, a daughter of the late Ted and Edna Surette. She was a graduate of Mexico High School and was employed for eight years at Bass Shoe in North Jay. The last three years, she managed her son’s business, Kennebec Home Brew Supplies in Farmington.
She very much loved her children, family and friends. She enjoyed wine making and won a gold medal in an international wine making contest. She was an avid gardener and had a love of nature.
She is survived by her three children, John Cormier and his wife, Patricia “Patty,” of Farmington, Paula Moran of Lansdale, Pa., and Diane Cormier of Bangor; siblings, Ted Surette, Annette Pratt and her husband, Alan, Tom Surette and his wife, Marcie, Mike Surette and his wife, Sandy, Debi Hamlin and her husband, Mark, Ida O’Donnell and her husband, Dana, and Gary Surette, all of the greater Mexico area, and Eddie Surette and his wife, Betty, of New Jersey; and four grandchildren, Danny and Cody Hilyard and Stephanie and Matthew Moran.
