LEWISTON — L/A Arts will once again offer an Oil Painting Workshop with local artist Michael Ranucci. The class will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 29 through Nov. 3, at the DownStage at L/A Arts.
Participants will develop an oil painting in the tradition of the old masters with special emphasis on composition, and light and shadow. During the weekly sessions, participants will discover a variety of paint application methods such as glazing, scumbling, velatura and others. The mystery will be taken out of preliminary drawings, under paintings and developing a painting in layers. There will be plenty of individual attention, as well as a demonstration in composing with one light source.
The instructor will have quality photographic reference available for subject of paintings, however, any participant who would like to provide their own subject reference should contact Ranucci at 754-3531 or via email at [email protected]. Additionally, participants will need to have basic oil painting colors and supplies, specified medium, easel and a few other miscellaneous items. Ranucci will contact all participants with a more detailed list prior to the first class.
Participation fee for the workshop is $120 each person; students can enroll online at www.laarts.org or through L/A Arts at 782-7228. The workshop requires a minimum number of students to sign up and is restricted to a maximum of 10.
The DownStage at L/A Arts is located at 5 Canal Street Alley, just off the first block of Pine Street, in downtown Lewiston. Parking is provided for free in the Camden National Bank parking lot.
