LEWISTON — Area residents interested in serving as trained hospice and/or bereavement volunteers can still sign up for scheduled training classes. There is no cost to attend.

The 27-hour hospice training class will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 28 to Oct. 26, at the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice office, 15 Strawberry Ave.

Hospice volunteers provide two to four hours a week of support for patients at home, in long-term care facilities and at the AHCH Hospice House in Auburn. Their support includes companionship, respite so that caregivers can take a break for several hours and help with errands and other needs.

The 15-hour bereavement training class will begin on Thursday, Oct. 28. Bereavement volunteers provide about two to four hours of one-on-one visiting or telephone support to families after the death of a loved one.
