LEWISTON — Raymond Leo Laliberte, 87, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, at d’Youville Pavilion, after a long illness.
He was born in Auburn, Aug. 12, 1923, the son of Prudent Laliberte and Wilhelmine Belanger. He graduated from St. Peter and St. Paul Elementary and Lewiston High School.
During World War II, he volunteered with the U.S. Navy and served as a SeaBee in a construction battalion in Papua-New Guinea and the Philippines. His unit took part in the invasion of the Lingayan Gulf during the liberation of the Philippines.
He and his brother, Roland, were the general contractors of Laliberte Brothers Inc. They built the court house and the law office on Park Street in Lewiston. These constructions were among the many excellent, quality public, commercial and residential buildings the company built over 25 years.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jeanne Rousseau, a resident at Maison Marcotte; and their only child, Lucille, of Sabattus; a brother, Roland, of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.
