The 1985-86 Bates College Concert Series will open Friday with a performance by the virtuoso baroque chamber ensemble Banquetto Muscicale.

Founded in 1972 by harpsichordist Martin Pearlman, Boston-based Banquetto Musicale is one of the few permanent orchestras in the United States performing music of the baroque and early classical era, 1650 to 1800, on original instruments. Either unaltered period antiques or authentic reproductions, these instruments enable the ensemble to reproduce the music exactly as the composers of the time intended.
