LEWISTON — Marion O. Rabassa, 82, a resident of Lewiston, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Sept. 22, with her family by her side, after a long illness.
She was born in Presque Isle, June 16, 1928, the daughter of Hugo and Dorothea (Marino) Olore. She was a graduate of Presque Isle High School and the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and past president of its chapter.
She married Robert P. Rabassa in 1951. They came to the Lewiston area from Amarillo, Texas, in 1953. She was active as a private voice teacher and taught chorus in the local junior high schools. She directed several choirs through the years at St. Joseph, St. Patrick and Saints Peter and Paul churches.
The Rabassas were communicants at St. Joseph’s Church since arriving in Lewiston. She was a past prefect of the Queen’s Guild Sodality from 1965 to 1969.
Along with her husband, Bob, she was active in the Community Concerts Association. She was a membership chairperson for several years. She served on the board of the L/A Arts at its conception.
She was a member of the St. Mary’s women’s cancer support group since 1998. She participated in the yearly “Relay For Life” to benefit cancer research. Marion was a deeply family oriented woman. Her constant source of pride and joy were her four children, her four precious grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
She is survived by four children, Mike Rabassa of Lewiston, Maria Alexander and her husband, Kip, of Sarasota, Fla., Rob Rabassa and his wife, Kathy, of Simpsonville, S.C., and John Rabassa of Lewiston; four grandchildren, Dylan and Jeff Alexander, Daneca Rabassa and Bella Trimmer; and one great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Rose.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert P. Rabassaon Sept. 8, 2000; and her “second chance love,” Joseph Bennett in July 2004.
