ROXBURY — Reconstruction of 5 miles of Route 17 in Roxbury and Byron isn’t going to happen.
Turns out that Maine Department of Transportation utility coordinator, Terry Blair Jr., erred, Town Clerk Nina Hodgkins said Friday.
“It has been brought to my attention that I made a mistake,” Blair wrote town officials Thursday via e-mail. “I was using an old template and did not change ‘construction in the summer of (2011)’ to ‘design in the summer of (2011).’”
Despite telling selectmen last month that construction would begin next summer, Blair said the project is currently only scheduled for preliminary design.
“There is no construction funding for this project right now, and no utility relocations are expected in the upcoming construction season,” Blair said. “We are only collecting information for plan development in the next few months. Sorry for the confusion.”
Whenever it gets under way, the project will start 3.61 miles north of the Mexico-Roxbury town line and extend northerly 5.01 miles to the Swift River Bridge in Byron.
