NORWAY — Senior Girl Scout Sabreena Phillips, a member of Troop 1073 in Norway, is challenging local youth groups and individuals to take on a project that will benefit their community and the people who live in it.
Phillips is working on her Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award that a Girl Scout may earn. For many girls, the leadership skills, organizational skills and sense of community and commitment that come from “going for the Gold” set the foundation for a lifetime of active citizenship.
“Service is a big part of the Girl Scout program,” said Phillips. “For my project titled ‘Paint Your Community with Service,’ I have assembled some kits which contain a list of potential projects, contacts and project planning and evaluation sheets. I’m also available to guide a group though their project steps.”
Phillips, who has been a Girl Scout for 11 years, would like to see as many projects as possible completed between September through December 2010. In January, 2011, she plans to create a photo mural depicting all of the completed community service projects.
Individuals or groups who would like to take on a community service project should contract Phillips through her troop advisor, Diana Phillips, at 743-7014 or send an e-mail to [email protected].
