FARMINGTON — Two women were injured Tuesday morning when a postal truck ran into the back of their vehicle while they were stopped at a crosswalk on Main Street.
Kimberly Cordeiro, 36, of Industry had stopped her 2003 Jeep Cherokee about 9:15 a.m. at a crosswalk in front of Scott Hall at the University of Maine at Farmington for a group of students to cross the road.
Philip Enman, 53, of Farmington who was driving the Farmington postal truck, didn’t see Cordeiro had stopped and struck her vehicle, Farmington Police Officer Ted Neil said.
Neither Enman nor the crossing students were injured, but Cordeiro and her passenger, Nicole Turcotte, 27, of New Sharon were taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital by NorthStar Ambulance, Neil said.
Both women were treated and later released, a hospital spokesman said Tuesday afternoon.
Police estimate approximately $6,000 damage to the Chevrolet postal truck and about $1,000 to the Jeep, which was driven from the scene.
Members of Farmington Fire and Rescue helped with traffic and clearing the scene. UMF Police Chief Ted Blais and officers from his department also helped at the scene.
