PARIS – The cause of a fire that destroyed a barn on Hebron Road on Tuesday morning has not been determined, but fire officials say they are leaning toward electrical.
“It’s hard to determine,” fire Chief Brad Frost said late Wednesday afternoon. “We’re pretty sure it’s electrical but we may never know for sure.”
Firefighters from Paris, Poland, Oxford, Hebron and Norway were called to the fire at 520 Hebron Road at 11:46 a.m., extinguishing it in about 15 minutes. The barn was located about one-half a mile from the Hebron town line. The structure was built about eight years ago and owned by Dana and Mary Matthews.
The couple had 12 chickens in a pen near the back of the barn, but all escaped unharmed. Matthews’ tools and some other items that he was preparing to use in an upcoming yard sale were destroyed.
