It took about 14 hours after stops for the Lewiston Maineiacs to finally reach their destination Tuesday, and it left the team little time for dinner.
The bus traveled through the rain the whole trip, finally arriving at the Motel Alpine in Rouyn-Noranda at about 9 p.m. Tuesday, the team’s traditional stopover for games in the Abitibi-Temiscamingue region of the province.
The team ate, and in the morning, the bus brought radio man Alex Reed and equipment manager Matt Flaherty to the Iamgold Arena (formerly the Dave Keon Arena), where the pair set the locker room up for the team’s morning skate.
The skate was basically a get-up-and-go skate, with a few simple drills to get the players moving again. Aside from Matt Bissonnette, who did not make the trip, everyone on the roster will be available to coach J.F. Houle tonight.
One more interesting note, goalie Nick Champion, who will likely get the nod tonight in the cage, will sport a Rouyn-Noranda Huskies helmet while doing so. The 20-year-old keeper played last season for the Huskies, and does not yet have a Lewiston Maineiacs mask.
