NORWAY — Members of the Stone-Smart American Legion Auxiliary Unit 82 recently held their September meeting with President Joyce Clifford presiding.
Ellen Snow reported that over the summer months she donated items to Mitzi Sequoia of Community Services, many times for babies, as well as household goods, toys and books. Many items have been donated to Responsible Pet Care and athletic equipment to Norway Recreation. Marjy Sessions and Kim Hansen also donated items. The estimated value of the donations was $3,700.
The Department President and Second District President will come to the Oxford Unit on Oct. 20 for their annual visit. Oxford will host units from Norway, South Paris, West Paris and Buckfield.
Clifford has chosen as her project a food drive to help the Oxford Hills Food Pantry. There will be a box in the hall to collect items. The hall is always open on Monday nights, when bingo is happening. Anyone wanting to donate items can do so at that time.
The group voted the following donations: to the Homeless Veterans Project; for the lady veterans plaque, honoring all lady veterans which will be in the Hall of Flags at the State House; and to the Norway Firemen’s Relief Fund.
Clifford reported on awards received at the Department Convention in June. They included a third place plaque, the Crystal Award for History book, Golden Eagle Award for Americanism report, Golden Apple Award and certificate for education, a $10 award for the best report for children and youth, a certificate for supporting a proactive communication network in the community, a certificate for supporting the Poppy Program, Carmie Rideout received certificates for History Report and History Book and a certificate for VAVS for outstanding help to Togus and helping all veterans.
The meeting was preceded by a buffet supper with Thelma Denlinger in charge, assisted by Kathy Neary and Rose Moulton.
