AUBURN — Herbert L. Pike, 77, of Naples, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, at the Hospice House.

He was born in South Waterford, Feb. 27, 1933, a son of Grace Skinner and Clayton Alvin Pike. Herbert worked in the woods most of his life. In 1974, he went to Alaska to join the laborers union and worked on the pipeline until his retirement. In his younger years, he trained and drove sulky horses.

Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Carolyn of Naples; his daughter, Grace Onofrio and her husband, David, of Norway; two stepsons, William Fitzcharles and his wife, Ava, of Lincolnville and Robert Fitzcharles and his wife, Kate, of Bridgton; two granddaughters, Nichelle Herrick of South Paris and Tanesha Onofrio of Portland; three stepgrandsons, Robbie, Grant and Ian Fitzcharles; five sisters, Lilia Hill of Norway, Laura Richardson of Las Vegas, Ruth O’Brien of South Paris, Betty Adams of Bridgton and Eva Thurlow of Auburn; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, John of Oxford, Wendell and his wife, Francis, of Waterford, Fred of Harrison and Robert of South Waterford; and a sister, Edith Monk of Nashua, N.H.

Herbert will be sadly missed by many family and friends, especially good friend and neighbor, Dennis Knudsen.
