LEWISTON — Blanche Brochu Legendre, 92, of 100 Campus Ave., passed away peacefully Sept. 28, at St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion.
She was born in Van Buren, June 16, 1918, the daughter of the late Denis and Melvina Roy Langlais. She was educated in local schools and was employed at Bates Manufacturing in the textile department for 45 years.
She was married in 1936 to Ernest Brochu Jr. and lived in Lewiston all her life. After his death 1976, she married Maurice A. Legendre in 1980, and lived in Lewiston and Hialeah Gardens, Fla. Maurice passed away in 2001.
Blanche was a member of Holy Family Church, Ste. Anne Sodality and was a Bates News Reporter for many years. Among her activities, she loved spending time with her family, friends and bowling.
She is survived by a son, James R. Brochu and wife, Ivy, of Lewiston; a stepson, Dr. Alfred Legendre and wife, Carol, of Knoxville, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, DiAnne “Joy” Smith of Ashville N.C.; 11 grandchildren, Kevin Brochu, Joni Manter, Dana Brochu, Eric Brochu, Tony Brochu, Dr. Ann Brooks, Dr. Scott Lauze, Lisa Albert, Paula Stopp, Marc Legendre and Maurice Legendre; 21 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; four sisters, Lucille Dehetre, Doreen Lebrun and husband, Don, Jeannine Poulin and Georgette Rene and husband, Randy; and a brother, Gene Langlais.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Marlene Brochu Lauze July 31, 1970; a son, Fernand Brochu in June 2009, and his wife, Irene (Frasier) Brochu Aug. 24, 2007; sisters, Simone Emond, Yvette Roux and Pauline Thibault; and brothers, Arthur and George Langlais.
