HEBRON — Hebron Academy Head of School John King welcomed the newest nine members of the school’s faculty this year.

They are Tim Bonis, Emily Bonis, Patrick Shairs, Colin Griggs, Louise Roy, Casey Ftorek, Kurt Swanbeck, Jennifer Lonergan and Austin Stonebraker. The new members of the school community teach, coach and live in the dormitories as student advisers.

Emily and Tim Bonis come to Hebron with their two daughters, dogs and nine years of teaching mathematics and history, and serving as dean and dorm heads at South Kent School in Connecticut.

He graduated from the University of Southern Maine and teaches history and coaches the boys’ soccer team. A graduate of Portland State University in Oregon, she teaches Upper School mathematics.

Casey Ftorek graduated from Middlebury College and earned his master’s degree in education at Franklin Pierce University while coaching and teaching at Brewster Academy and in public schools in New Hampshire and Vermont. A two-sport athlete in college, he is teaching history, serves as assistant coach of the boys’ varsity soccer team, and will lead the JV boys’ hockey team.

Colin Griggs graduated from Franklin and Marshall College and worked in the athletic department there before teaching at Indian Mountain School and Marianapolis Prep. He is teaching Spanish and English as Second Language, and coaches the girls’ varsity soccer and basketball teams.

Jennifer Lonergan comes to Hebron with her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in art and art education from the University of New Hampshire. An accomplished artist, she teaches photography and drawing, and advises the Outdoor Skills program.

Patrick Shairs joins Hebron as a math teacher and assistant in technology after teaching for four years at Bridgton Academy. He is an assistant football coach and will lead the JV lacrosse team in the spring. He graduated from the University at Albany, New York.

Louise Roy, a member of the Hebron Class of 2005, returns to Hebron as science teacher, admissions associate and soccer and hockey coach after graduating from Hamilton College.

Austin Stonebraker, who graduated from Hebron in 1997, follows up his winter and spring term teaching last year to join the school as anatomy and environmental science teacher. He coaches the JV boys’ soccer team and the alpine skiing team. He graduated from Colby College and has been doing master’s degree work and teaching at University of New Hampshire.

Kurt Swanbeck arrives on campus with his wife and sons from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he has been the head varsity soccer coach for seven years. He joins the admissions office and coaches the boys’ varsity soccer team. He holds bachelor of arts in education and master of education degrees from Columbia University.
