LEWISTON — Raymond J. Doherty Sr., 78, of Rumford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 28, after a short illness at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Rumford, Sept. 22, 1932, the son of the late Charles “Buster” and Germaine (Morisette) Doherty.

He graduated from St. Athanasius School and Stephens High. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

On July 21, 1956, he was married to Barbara Lee Roy and together they had three sons, Ray Jr., Russell and James. Ray held a variety of jobs throughout the years and will always be remembered for his work ethic and happy go lucky personality.

At Rumford Hospital where he worked as a housekeeper, Ray always kept a smile on everyone’s faces, especially all of the “young ladies” he worked with, and he always kept the hospital in pristine condition. He also worked at the Madison Motor Inn for many years.

He was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior and was a member of the American Legion Post 24. Ray loved collecting model cars and playing solitaire on the computer. Ray enjoyed the sounds of a jazz trumpet, especially Harry James and Al Hirt. He also loved taking trips to Massachusetts to visit his many relatives.
