AUBURN — Ruth I. (Gammon) Pride, 87, of Norway passed away Saturday,  Oct. 2, at the Hospice House in Auburn with her loving family by her side.

Ruth was born on June 26, 1923, in Norway, to William and Gertrude (Davis) Gammon. She lived in Norway most of her life and attended school in Norway.

She met the love of her life, Eugene B. Pride Sr., in 1939, and they were married on Jan. 24, 1940, in Norway. They lived in Auburn while he worked at Bath Iron Works and moved back to Norway when Gene’s father fell ill and they helped take care of him and the family farm on Pikes Hill in Norway.

Ruth was a homemaker and together they raised seven children, as well as being the bookkeeper for her husband’s excavation business. She decided to work outside of the home and went to work at Wilner Wood Products and then at Cornwall Industries. She worked there until she retired to take care of her mother and husband due to their failing health.

Her family was the most important thing to her. She enjoyed family trips to Reid State Park, Santa’s Village, Story Land and just getting together for holidays or birthdays. She attended all activities of her children and then grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren until her failing health prevented her from doing so.

Ruth also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, baking (especially at Christmas) listening to music and watching her soaps. While in school she was part of the choir — she had a beautiful voice.

She will be sadly missed by her children, Eugene and Joyce Pride Jr. of Ridge Manor, Fla., Gloria and Maurice Dorey of Rumford Point, and William Pride of Limington, Karen and Roger Goodwin of Oxford, Trudy and Dale Durgin, Jim and Rhonda Tibbetts Sr., and Ruth and Don Upton, all of Norway; stepchildren, Joan Tucker of South Paris, and Ira and Judy Allen of Smyrna, Tenn.; 21 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene Pride Sr.; her parents, William and Gertrude Gammon; sister, Doris; and stepson, Abner Allen.
