ROCKPORT, Maine (AP) — The Maine Dental Association is hoping the state’s quality of life will help attract more dentists for the less populated parts of the state.

The association brought 53 dental students to the Samoset Resort in Rockport on Friday and Saturday to showcase what a great place Maine is to live.

Association Executive Director Frances Miliano says there are probably enough dentists in southern Maine, but shortages elsewhere.

The state helps dentists repay their student loans and there’s a pilot program to give new dentists income tax credits.

Former Association President Jonathan Shenkin tells the Bangor Daily News new dentists willing to work in remote areas will face the challenge that many people there can’t afford dental care.
