DEAR SUN SPOTS: For several years now, a group of residents of St. Mary’s Residences, formerly known as “Maison Marcotte,” have renovated dollhouses with fresh paint and new wallpaper, made repairs, cushions and window curtains, crocheted floor rugs, created wallframes, decorated and then raffled these attractive houses, with all proceeds going toward the Maison’s activities.

In addition to being a wonderful occupational activity for some residents and helping the activity fund, it’s a gift that some lucky child will appreciate for years. We are asking Sun Spots’ generous readers who might have a dollhouse sitting idly in some attic or garage if they would consider donating it to the residence.

I assure you that it is a worthy cause, and both you and the gift will be greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate one, kindly call the main office in Lewiston at 786-0062. Thank you! — Sr. Rita Bourassa, o.s.u., Lewiston

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In the Sept. 15 issue in the City section there was a story on Sheryl Hamilton, who collects salt and pepper shakers. I have a set I would like to give her. I can either mail it or deliver it, whichever would be easiest. She can contact me at 333-7260 and leave a message with a phone number. Thanks. — Cathy, Monmouth, seacat7up@yahoo.com

ANSWER: You can drop off any salt and pepper shakers you’d like to give to Sheryl at 800 Center St. in Auburn. Sun Spots bets Sheryl will be very pleased!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I enjoy the “Looking Back” column in the Sun Journal, especially the headlines of 100 years ago, but wish I could read more from these old newspapers. Is there an online resource where people can look up old Sun Journals from the early days? — Brian Larochelle, brian_larochelle@yahoo.com

ANSWER: Thanks to a project by Google, older content is being made available. Google is going back decades, scanning in old microfiche and posting pages online.

Sun Journal Web Editor Pattie Reaves provided the following instruction and links:

Steps to find archive pages:

1. Visit the Google News Archive Search at http://news.google.com/archivesearch

2. Search for Lewiston Daily Sun (or Evening Journal, or Sun Journal)

3. Click the link “browse newspaper editions from Lewiston Daily Sun”
