DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Robert H. Wilson, 82, a resident of Daytona Beach Shores, Fla., since 1997, died on Saturday, Oct. 2, at home surrounded by his loved ones and longtime friend, Diane.

Mr. Wilson was born on Jan. 20, 1928, in Houlton, the son of Robert A. and Flora M. (Hunter) Wilson. He graduated from Hodgdon High School in 1946. While in high school, he was a member of the basketball team from 1943 to 1946. He remained a fan of basketball his whole life. He attended Husson College in Bangor.

He was employed by the Department of Agriculture from 1949, to his retirement from the state of Maine in 1980. During his career, he started as a potato inspector working from Limestone to Newport. In 1952, he became a poultry grader working in Augusta, Rockland and Belfast.

In 1954, the family settled in Augusta. He became a supervisor for the Department of Agriculture and retired in 1980 after 25 years of service. He was then employed by the Federal Government as a grading and egg product supervisor for the state of Maine, and then transferred to Gainesville, Ga., from 1980 until his retirement in 1997. After his retirement, Bob and Anita Wilson moved to Daytona Beach Shores, Fla.

Mr. Wilson enjoyed fishing, boating, motorcycling, bowling and golf. The Wilsons lived in Augusta for 25 years. They always returned to spend their summers at their beloved cottage on China Lake. He enjoyed visiting with his children and grandchildren there.

Bob also loved to dance. The Wilsons graduated from the Belgrade Lakeside Promenaders Western Square Dance Club in 1976. They were also members of the Lakeshore Squares in Gainesville, Ga., and the Yonah Mountain Rounders, the Swinging 8”s of Daytona Beach, Fla., the Granada Square Dance Club of Ormond Beach, Fla., and the Flagler Ocean Waves of Flagler Beach, Fla.

In 2004, the Wilsons, traveled to England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales and danced with their club members in all four countries. His claim to fame was kissing the Blarney Stone. He enjoyed their many trips to Europe, Canada, the Caribbean, Hawaii and Alaska.

Survivors include his wife, Anita of Daytona Beach Shores; his four daughters and their husbands, Joanne and Stephen Zayszly of Leeds, Linda and Rodney Layman of Moorpark, Calif., Marilyn and Ricardo Quiroz of Tucson, Ariz., and Joyce and Robert Williams of Vassalboro; he had nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Lawrence and Waldo; and his sisters, Evelyn Simpson and Madeline Rawson.
