FARMINGTON — Police used a Taser gun twice on a Farmington man who was resisting arrest Saturday, but it didn’t stop him. According to the police report, after a scuffle with two Farmington Police Department officers, he then kicked out the back window of the police cruiser causing more than $600 in damages.

Michael Ringer, 41, was arrested on charges of criminal mischief, refusing to submit to arrest and domestic assault after police responded to a call at Cascade Leisure Park about 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

When officers tried to talk with Ringer, he resisted and began a scuffle with police Sgt. Shane Cote and Officer William Tanner. All three fell down, according to the police report, Rachel Heseltine, department secretary said.

Ringer continued to swing at the officers, causing Cote to draw the Taser gun. According to the police report, Cote warned Ringer that he would use it if he didn’t stop and then fired the Taser, but it had no effect on Ringer. Cote then tried what is called a “dry Taser,” where the prongs are not used but the gun is held on the skin.

During this shock, Ringer rolled over, grabbed the gun and shut it off, according to the report. He then submitted to arrest but once in the police cruiser, he kicked out the back window, Heseltine said.

The whole window needs to be replaced at a cost of more than $600, she said.

Tanner received abrasions on his neck and elbow during the scuffle but no one else was hurt.

The reason the Taser did not work on Ringer is not known, Heseltine said.

Ringer remained in custody late Monday after bail was set at $1,000 cash. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 21.
