Vining reunion

FARMINGTON — The descendants of Benjamin and Sarah (Ring) Vining will have their 25th annual Vining reunion at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Dunham, 434 Davis Road.

There will be a potluck dinner at noon. Those attending should bring something to share for the meal and any genealogical information and pictures to share. Anyone who wishes to play a musical instrument or give readings or stories would be welcomed.

Composting

FARMINGTON — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension will offer a composting workshop from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the Franklin County office, 138 Pleasant St.

A $5 fee can be paid upon arrival. Participants will learn everything they need to know to make quality compost. Space is limited to 15 people. To preregister, call 778-4650 or 800-287-1478.

Audubon program

FARMINGTON — The Western Maine Audubon Society will host its monthly program entitled Avian Architecture at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Lincoln Auditorium, Roberts Learning Center, University of Maine at Farmington.

The program will look at where and how various birds build their nests and how one can look for nests without disturbing them. A slide show will be presented by Jerry Longcore, a retired research biologist who worked with the US Geological Survey and who specialized in migratory birds. The program is free and open to the public.

Benefit supper

CARTHAGE — A benefit supper will be held Saturday, Oct. 9, for Jo-Ann Houghton Walker who has been back and forth from CMMC and Rumford Hospital since the beginning of July due to a long term illness. The supper will take place at the Carthage Grange Hall.

There will be a 50/50 raffle and Chinese auction tickets will go on sale at 4 p.m. with the drawings at 7 p.m. The supper will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. and will include spaghetti, coleslaw, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, rolls and pies. Cost for adults is $6; children 12 and under, $3.

Board meeting
