BETHEL — Retired educator Charles H. Heino, whose parents were of Polish and Finnish descent, will speak on his recent memoir about growing up in Maine, “Cobblestones to Hot Top: A Life in Maine,” at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at the Bethel Historical Society. The program will take place in the exhibit hall of the Dr. Moses Mason House, 14 Broad St.
Born in Rockland, where he spent his early years, Heino worked as a teacher, principal and superintendent of schools in a number of communities throughout Maine, including Bethel, where he lived for a number of years.
Educated at what is now the University of Southern Maine, as well as the University of Maine at Orono, he also served several terms as a State Representative after his retirement as a superintendent of schools.
Heino’s book is rich in details and colorful stories. Copies will be available for purchase and signing by the author following the talk. Anyone interested in the free program is invited to attend.
