FARMINGTON — Sandy River Players will hold auditions for Mary Chase’s classic American comedy “Harvey” on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 13-14.

Remembered fondly by audiences because of the movie version starring Jimmy Stewart, “Harvey” was first produced for the stage in 1944.

When Elwood P. Dowd starts to introduce his imaginary friend Harvey, a 6 1/2-foot rabbit, to guests at a society party, his sister Veta decides to have him committed to a sanitarium to spare her daughter Myrtle Mae from future embarrassment. Things, however, do not go according to Veta’s plan.

There are roles for six men and six women ages 18 and older. Auditions, both at 7 p.m., will be held Oct. 13 at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church on Academy Street; and Oct. 14 at the SRP Playhouse on Starling Street.

Performances will be in January. For more information, e-mail director Dan Woodward at [email protected].
