Board: Lisbon Town Council

Issue: Each year the town requests bids for sand for winter roads.

Scoop: Pat Cyr, doing business as Sabattus Sand and Gravel, was awarded the contract to provide sand for the 2010-11 winter season on his low bid of $4.25 per yard for an estimated 5,000 cubic yards. Seven bid sheets were sent out and three returned.

Scoop: Councilors voted to move forward with plans to refurbish fire engine 2 at a cost of up to $21,307.

Issue: The town has been without a tax assessor since the recent termination of Pat Dow.

Scoop: William Van Tuinen Appraisal has been appointed interim assessor to fill the vacancy for an unspecified time.

Scoop: Following an executive session, councilors authorized the code enforcement officer to proceed with an enforcement action against the owner of property at 22 Davis St.

Executive session: Councilors went into executive session from 7:55 to 8:40 p.m. to discuss personnel matters and consulted with legal counsel but no votes were taken.

Scoop: A special entertainment permit and liquor license was issued to the Lisbon Left Hand Club.

Appointments: Ralph Day to the library governing board; John Golina and Sean Kaherl to the recreation committee; and Shaun Carr to the board of appeals. All terms are through June 30, 2013.

Upcoming election: Councilors set poll locations and hours for the Nov. 2 state and municipal elections as recommended by Town Clerk Twila Lycette. Sheila Gray and Monique Gayton were appointed wardens for District 1, Lisbon village; and District 2, Lisbon center and Lisbon Falls, respectively.

Polling locations: District 1 at the superintendent’s office, 19 Gartley St.; District 2 at the MTM community center, 16 School St. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Absentee ballots: As of Thursday, 242 absentee ballots had been issued and 74 returned. Typically for this type of election, about 800 absentee ballots are processed. For further information on voting, call Lycette at 353-3000 ext. 212.
