NORWAY — Police on Thursday released the names of seven people involved in a Main Street crash that sent a father and daughter to the hospital Wednesday afternoon.

Norway police Sgt. Jim Ventresca identified the driver of the sedan as Mindy Zeegers, 19, of Yeaton Road in West Paris. She was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, he said, with hip and leg injuries.

Her father, Mark Zeegers, 56, of the same address, was knocked unconscious in the crash and was also taken to the Lewiston hospital with head injuries, he said.

A nursing supervisor said Thursday night that Mindy was in fair condition, and Mark was not listed as a patient.

Ventresca said Mindy Zeegers’ 1994 Dodge Spirit entered Main Street from Norway Pines Apartments in the path of a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Joey Worthley, 23, of Mexico. His passengers, Corey Buffett, 23, of Mexico, Isiah Stickney, 14, of Rumford and Ryan Stickney, 16, of Mexico, were not injured.

Ventresca said Mindy Zeegers stopped at the bottom of the hill to leave the apartment complex at 34 Main St. and attempted to make a right turn and did not see the oncoming SUV. When the SUV struck the car, “both Mindy and Mark lost consciousness.”

He said Mindy stepped on the gas as she lost consciousness, sending the car south on Main Street until back seat passenger Travis Ayotte, 21, of Otisfield took the steering wheel and drove the car about a tenth of a mile into the parking lot of the Norway Veterinary Hospital.

He said Ayotte and the other back seat passenger, Ann Delsignor, 19, of Norway had “bumps and bruises” and were treated at the scene.

Police Chief Rob Federico said Wednesday night that charges were pending against Mindy Zeegers. “In my opinion, she passed out from alcohol,” he said.

“There was a couple of open containers (in the Dodge,)” Ventresca said Thursday.

Blood alcohol tests are being done and results may not be available for weeks, he said, referring to Zeegers. He said he has not interviewed her because she is under sedation, he said.
