100 years ago, 1910

In the interests of a bowling league for the coming season, all the local pin pickers are invited to meet Wednesday evening at the L & A Bowling Alleys, when arrangements will be made for its formation. The league will be made up of five six-man teams, and the management of the alleys has offered the biggest prize ever competed for in local bowling circles, in the sum of $100.

50 years ago, 1960

A warrant charging an Auburn department store with violating Sunday blue laws was served yesterday by Auburn police and the store corporation vice president said last night that the firm will make it a “test case.”

The warrant, signed by two Lewiston businessmen, charged Wig-Warm Moccasin Inc., doing business as The Fantastic Fair, with “keeping open shop on the Lord’s Day.”

25 years ago, 1985

The Lewiston Planning Board will consider setting a public hearing date for a rezoning petition filed by a group of Cram Avenue residents who oppose the proposed construction of two eight-unit apartment buildings in the neighborhood.

Twelve Cram Avenue residents and six residents of nearby Laud Street filed a petition asking the city to rezone a parcel of land including Cram, Laud, Victor Street and Hartley Street from Residential 8 to Residential 3.
